PitPal & PitPal Pro
PITPAL Racing Software provides many features for both the
amatuer and the professional racing team. It is like adding
another crew member to your team! PITPAL comes in two versions:
Standard and Professional, so there is a version that fits both
your needs and your budget. The following lists give you an idea
of what is available in each version:
Standard PITPAL
Features:
- Stopwatch for Lap timing - easily time up to 500 laps by
hitting the space bar. This gives the crew more time to
concentrate on watching the car and the competition. No
more subtracting minutes and seconds to determine each
lap's time.
- Also works well timing from videotape in the comfort of
your living room.
- Average lap time is calculated for the fastest N laps.
- Automatic calculation of your weight distribution from
the wheel weights - helps you eliminate math errors and
arrive at the right setup more quickly.
- Tire staggers are automatically calculated from the tire
circumferences.
- Single key review shows the value of one setup item (for
example stagger or tire pressure) for all races, along
with the lap times.
- Statistical analysis identifies which changes are most
likely to affect your lap times, which allows you to
concentrate your energy on the things that are most
likely to make a difference.
- Comes on 3.5" floppies that run on any IBM
compatible computer.
- No expensive electronics are required - you continue to
use the setup and measurement equipment you already own.
- Easy to read format helps make sure you have recorded all
the data you need. Over 200 setup items may be recorded
per track session, including:
| Engine Bore |
Weight Distribution |

Engine Stroke |
| Spring Rates |

- Menu driven program with built in help is extremely easy
to use, even for users wha are new to computers (So easy
even your crew-chief can run it!).
- Easy to read instruction manual provides complete
examples, index, and answers to the most commonly asked
questions.
- Keeps track of entry fees, points, and earnings so you
always know exactly where you stand.
- Data may be printed out in a neat orderly form to provide
copies for the team notebook, crew members, friends,
fans, etc.
- Total gear ratio is automatically calculated from the
transmission and rear end ratios.
- May be used on a desktop computer or a laptop.
Professional PITPAL
has all the features of Standard PITPAL
plus:
- Multiple point timing allows you to break the track into
segments and time each segment independently. This way
you can compare your times in the turns and the straights
with your competition and determine where you have an
advantage and where you need to improve.
- Multiple point timing (segmented) allows multiple cars to
be timed simultaneously, such as during a practice
session.
- Multiple car timing allows you to time up to 4 cars in a
single race. With this feature you can monitor whether
you are gaining or losing ground. This feature is also
useful for teams with more than one car.
- The Qualification feature lets you enter qual times as
they occur. They are then automatically sorted according
to qual time, and a running average of the qualifiers is
calculated.
- Charts of RPM versus speed (MPH) can be generated for
various gear ratios and tire sizes.
- Optional notes are provided in lap timing mode so
significant events, such as cautions and pit stops, can
be recorded right along with the laps they pertain to.
Many of the more common notes are provided with a single
keystroke.
- The average tire temperature is calculated automatically
from the individual tire temperatures.
- Fuel consumption is calculated during race timing.
- Additional data windows allow quick and easy data entry.
- Charts of laptime versus speed and speed versus laptime
may be generated for any given track size.
- Wheel weights may be derived from the desired
percentages. For example, you can tell PITPAL
Professional the total weight, and the left, rear, and
diagonal percentages, and it will calculate the weight
that must be on each wheel to acheive those percentages.
- Automatic calculation of the compression ratio from the
bore stroke, piston, and head information.
- Single key review displays even more data than in
Standard PITPAL.
- One page summary printouts provide the most commonly
desired data items in a neatly formatted summary sheet.
- Supports color monitors and allows you to choose the
colors.
- Pre-race checklist helps you make sure you don't forget
anything. You can customize this list to your own needs.
- Unit conversions allow you to quickly change from one
data unit to another - such as cubic inches to cubic
centimeters.
- Same general layout as Standard PITPAL, so you don't need
to learn a completely new set of commands to upgrade.
- Maximum carburetor airflow may be calculated based on
engine displacement and maximum RPM.
- Full function general purpose calculator is included.
- Additional data fields over those provided in Standard
PITPAL.
- Data can be saved to standard files that may be read by a
word processor.
- Groups of data items may be loaded from other files,
saving time entering those items that seldom change.
- 5 User defined fields are provided - you may define these
and use them for anything you like.
So far this all sounds great, but what is PITPAL really like?
The rest of this page provides some real example screens to help
give you a feel for what you can do with PITPAL. All of these
screen were taken from PITPAL Professional.
The first screen is the main screen. This screen is displayed
every time you start PITPAL. Notice that it has a menu across the
bottom and provides a list of commonly used commands in the text.
This means you always have a quick reference to the commands you
can use.

On a typical night of racing, you will do your
setup, adjust your tires, qualify, and then race. We'll present
some of the screens you would encounter in doing just that
sequence. First, let's look at the SETUP screen:

It provides places for the weight distribution,
all the front suspension adjustments, your springs and shocks,
and a number of other items. This is the screen that
automatically calculates the weight percentages from each wheel,
or calculates the wheel weights from the percentages. It also
calculates your total gear ratio. Most of the items on the SETUP
screen you set before you get to the track. Once you get to the
track, the next step is to adjust your tires. The TIRE screen
looks like:

Notice there are places for two pressures for
each tire - either a pressure out and a pressure in, or a
pressure for the tires and the liners. The average tire temp is
calculated for each tire once the three temps are entered for
that tire. Stagger is also automatically calculated from the
individual tire circumferences. Now that your setup is complete,
and your tires are set, you are ready to qualify. The following
screen shows a number of qualification times being entered.
Notice how the car and driver are placed into the lineup in the
proper place, and the average qual time is calculated
automatically.

After quals it is time to go racing! For this you
will want your lap times. The following screen gives a feel for
timing laps. If you were really running PITPAL then the bottom
entry in the list would always display the current amount of time
for this lap - in other words it would tick just like a real
stopwatch.

When the race is complete, you can select the
average of the fastest laps. We usually pick the fastest 3 laps
and average them. Averaging the entire race has less meaning
because of traffic, cautions, etc. Notice that there are a lot of
other menu items on the RACE screen. These are for the different
forms of lap timing such as segmented, multiple car, viewing
timed laps, etc.
We hope these web pages have provided a better
idea of the advantages that PITPAL can provide for your racing
team!
